Israel: Day 10

Day 10 (March 17th): Day 10 was our last day and a  free day.  We actually both commented that  10 days was the perfect amount of time to see Israel but we were ready to head home.   We slept in and then met up with part of our group to walk to the Old City, which we entered through the Damascus gate.

Our destination was the beautiful Austrian Hospice located on the Via Dolorosa.

The roof of the Austrian Hospice afforded us our closest view of the Temple Mount and a view of the Dome of the Rock.  Our days were very packed and there are only a few times you can get close with all the Muslim prayer hours (and no non-Muslims are allowed in the Dome of the Rock).

After checking out the views we did a little shopping and people watching in the Armenian quarter.   We ate at a pizza place for lunch  – this was our first American food in Israel as most lunches were falafel (deep-fried ball of ground chickpeas stuffed in a pita) or shawarma (chicken cooked on a rotisserie and stuffed in a pita). We then did a bit more shopping!

We worked our way back to hotel where we took  a quick nap, packed all of our dirty clothes and souvenirs, and then had our final dinner.  We left our hotel at 7 pm and headed to the Tel Aviv airport and caught our 12:30 am flight back home.

All that to say that we enjoyed our trip to Israel and would recommend it to everyone!
