Gone Country

I don’t know how you feel about all the musicians that are “crossing over” to the country scene… Jewel? Kid Rock? Jessica Simpson? Michelle Branch?  (I am waiting for MxPx to do some country!!)  But I have to say that I love Darius Rucker!  His sound may not be “country” but a lot of what they play on the “country” stations isn’t and every time they play a Darius Rucker song I will admit that I turn the volume up just a little and “Alright” is way up there with being one of my favorite songs from this summer… The youtube link to embed the video has been disabled, but  you can listen/view here.  My husband laughs when I send him lyrics to songs as he says its like “looking at a picture of ice cream vs eating ice cream”! But just in case you are at work and can’t play around on youtube, here are the lyrics:

Alright, Alright
Yeah it’s alright, alright

I don’t need no five star reservations
I got spaghetti and a cheap bottle of wine
I don’t need no concert in the city
I got a stereo and the best of Patsy Cline
Ain’t got no caviar no Dom Perignon
But as far as I can see, I’ve got everything I want

‘Cause I’ve got a roof over my head,
the woman I love laying in my bed
And it’s alright, alright
I’ve got shoes under my feet
Forever in the eyes staring back at me
And it’s alright, alright
And I’ve got all I need
And it’s alright by me

Maybe later on we’ll walk down to the river
Lay on a blanket and stare up at the moon
It may not be no French Riviera
But it’s all the same to me as long as I’ve got you

It may be a simple life, but that’s okay
If you ask me baby, I think I’ve got it made

Cause I’ve got a roof over my head,
the woman I love laying in my bed
And it’s alright, alright
I’ve got shoes under my feet
Forever in her eyes staring back at me
And it’s alright, alright
And I’ve got all I need
And it’s alright by me

It’s alright by me, yeah yeah
When I lay down at night I thank the Lord above
For giving me everything I ever could dream of

Cause I’ve got a roof over my head,
the woman I love laying in my bed
And it’s alright, alright, alright, alright
I’ve got shoes under my feet
Forever in her eyes staring back at me
And it’s alright, alright, alright
And I’ve got all I need, yeah
I’ve got all I need
And it’s alright by me
Oh yeah, it’s alright by me

  1. I actually don’t mind the cross-overs. Either way– to country or from country to mainstream. If it sounds good, then great! And I like this song too!
